GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF THE PRODUCT
Product: Teak wood.
Latin name Tectona Grandis
Origin: Costa Rica
From: Forest plantation, with a minimum of 12 years.
Cut: Rough square logs, fresh cut, based on international standards.
Drying Process: Air or natural.
Measurement: We use Hoppus formula.
Sap: White and yellow almost turned gray. Very small quantity allowed.
Heart (hardness): Yellowish light brown to medium dark brown with frequent gray streaks.
Fiber: Straight
Moisture: Few days after sawed, air dry.
Defects: Oily wood with deposits of calcareous and silica.PHYSICAL PROPERTIES
Apparent density 12% humidity / 690 kg/m3 wood semi heavy to heavy. Teak logs arrive to final destination with less humidity after more then 30 days of transit. Weight and CBM will be approximately 0.5% to 2% less then in loading port.

Sawing:The only problems are due to its high content of silica which quickly wears out cutting tools and may cause workers to have allergic reactions.
Drying Process: Very slow to dry. Minimum risk of curves or deformations.
Brushing : Fewer problems then its abrasive condition. Apt to being curved.
Glue: Many difficulties due to high content of oleoresins, especially with use of alkaline glues.
Nailing: Requires pre-made holes.
Finishing : Same difficulties found in application of glue.APPLICATIONS
